Statistics Canada and our partners* would like to welcome you to Diversity Matters, a one-day conference featuring a panel of high-profile experts who will present on the changes, trends and implications of ethno-cultural diversity and immigration at the national, provincial and regional levels. The conference also features panel discussions, Q & As, information booths and demonstrations on how to access the wealth of free information available on Statistics Canada's website (www.statcan.gc.ca).

* Conference partners include BC Stats, WelcomeBC, the Government of Canada’s Foreign Credential Recognition Program and Multiculturalism Program.

Why is the conference important?

Good statistics are the foundation of a well-functioning country. They allow businesses, non-profit organizations as well as individual Canadians to make informed decisions, and government of all levels to develop appropriate policies.

Our panel of experts will draw from a wide array of sources, including the 2006 Census, the Ethnic Diversity Survey, the Longitudinal Survey of Immigrants to Canada and the Labour Force Survey, to bring you up-to-date of the latest ethno-cultural and linguistic portraits of our population, future trends as well as of the social, economic and labour market integration of immigrants. The conference will also explore the implications of diversity and immigration for policies, service needs and business practices.

Who should attend?

Diversity Matters will benefit those who want the most recent and comprehensive statistical information on diversity and immigration available at national, provincial and regional levels. This conference will be ideal for policy makers, program developers, managers and researchers within all levels of government, academic institutions, businesses and organizations that have an interest in diversity and immigration. The conference materials will also be a valuable source for future reference and use.
